PATHWAY TO SUPPORT

At Mind Bridge Practice, therapy and professional services can be accessed through several referral pathways across Australia. These options allow individuals, couples, families, and professionals to receive support in a way that suits their personal circumstances and funding eligibility.

Many clients access therapy through a Mental Health Care Plan prepared by their General Practitioner under the Medicare Better Access initiative. With a GP referral, clients may be eligible to receive Medicare rebates for psychological therapy sessions with an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker. This pathway is commonly used by individuals experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, and emotional difficulties. A Mental Health Care Plan typically provides access to up to ten rebated sessions per calendar year, allowing individuals to receive structured therapeutic support while reducing out-of-pocket costs.

Therapeutic services may also be available for individuals who have psychosocial disability supports included within their National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) plan. Therapy under NDIS focuses on recovery-oriented and capacity-building approaches that support individuals in strengthening emotional regulation, developing coping strategies, improving daily functioning, and building meaningful relationships. Sessions are tailored to each participant’s goals and can support long-term wellbeing, independence, and community participation.

NDIS – Psychosocial Supports

Private therapy sessions are available for individuals, couples, and families who prefer to access support without requiring a referral. This option offers flexibility in terms of session frequency, duration, and therapeutic focus. Private sessions can be helpful for people who may not be eligible for Medicare or NDIS-funded services, or for those who prefer a more flexible approach to therapy that is not limited by funding pathways.

Therapy may also be accessed through referrals from psychiatrists or other medical specialists who are supporting an individual’s mental health care. Working collaboratively with psychiatrists and other healthcare providers allows therapy to complement medical treatment where required. This collaborative approach is particularly beneficial for individuals experiencing complex or ongoing mental health conditions who may benefit from coordinated care across multiple professionals.

Therapy may also be accessed through workers’ compensation or insurance-funded referrals for individuals experiencing psychological injury, workplace stress, trauma, or adjustment difficulties following work-related incidents. Counselling in this context focuses on supporting recovery, emotional stability, and resilience while helping individuals navigate the often complex processes associated with workplace injury claims and return-to-work pathways.

Couples therapy is available for partners who are seeking support to strengthen communication, rebuild trust, resolve ongoing conflict, and deepen emotional connection. Sessions focus on helping couples understand relational patterns, develop healthier ways of communicating, and work collaboratively toward improving the overall quality of their relationship.

Mind Bridge Practice also offers clinical supervision for social workers and other mental health clinicians including psychologists, occupational therapists, allied health practitioners, and mental health nurses. Supervision provides a reflective and supportive space for clinicians to discuss complex cases, strengthen therapeutic skills, and support ongoing professional development. Supervision is also available for social workers working toward accreditation as an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker through the Australian Association of Social Workers.
